Applying for accommodation

We have a high demand for the accommodation on campus. In order the decide who is allocated a room, we use the Allocation Document, which states the criteria for accommodation eligibility criteria. The Accommodation Allocation Document is reviewed annually in cooperation with the University of Surrey Student's Union and agreed by the Executive Board.

Undergraduate students

Undergraduate student accommodation licences run for a full undergraduate academic year, typically 38 weeks.

Postgraduate students

Postgraduate student accommodation licences run for a full academic year, typically 50-51 weeks.

Leaving Early

Residents may give notice to leave their residence at the end of the first semester.

For students who start in September they must give notice by 6 December 2024 to end their licence on 25 January 2025.

For new students who start in January or February they must give notice by 11 April 2025 to end licence on 9 June 2025.

If you wish to vacate your room earlier than 25 January 2025 you can advise Accommodation Services of your intentions. Please note that you may be liable for the payment of your room rent up to 25 January 2025 unless we are able to re-let your room earlier. In the event that we are able to arrange a re-let, you need only pay until the date that the new tenant moves in.

Outside the above scenarios you will not be able to end your license early unless you find another suitable to takeover the remainder of your license period.

If you accept an offer for accommodation with the University, you are also agreeing to the conditions of residence. These include your responsibilities within the residences as well as what level of service you can expect. 

If you have a medical condition, financial situation or if you have a preference for a quiet or alcohol-free environment which means you have a need for specific accommodation, please read the information on specific accommodation requirements. In your application you will also find a section for special requirements which you may complete with details residential needs.
