As a postgraduate student at Surrey, one of the best things about life here is the strong emphasis on personal and professional development. The university offers various career services, including workshops and networking events that are designed for postgraduate students and very useful to make connections in your field.

Why did you choose to study your course at Surrey?

I chose to study my course at Surrey because of its excellent reputation for academic excellence and its strong focus on practical, real-world applications of the subjects. The course covers all the latest topics in systems engineering and process optimisation, which are crucial for tackling real-world problems. Surrey's top-notch labs and research facilities make learning really engaging and innovative.

What are the best things about Surrey and your course?

The vibrant campus and union life make for an amazing student experience, and being so close to London means there are plenty of opportunities for both cultural and professional growth. As a French student, I found the international community at Surrey incredibly welcoming and supportive. The university offers a diverse and inclusive environment where you can meet people from all over the world and feel right at home.

Surrey also provides a wealth of opportunities beyond the classroom. For instance, I had the chance to participate in the Maths Challenge, which was a fantastic experience and led to me winning the judges' prize. These kinds of activities not only enhance your learning but also allow you to apply your knowledge in fun and rewarding ways.

Another highlight is the opportunity to work closely with leading experts and researchers.

The small class sizes and collaborative projects mean you get personalised attention and can engage deeply with your subject matter. For instance, I’m currently co-authoring a paper on furfural with one of our professors, which we are about to submit to publishers.

This project stemmed from a module on biomass, and it would not have been possible without Surrey’s small class sizes and the personalized attention from faculty members.

What are your career plans?

I’m currently preparing for an exciting opportunity with an upcoming internship in Paris at Louis Vuitton, where I’ll be working in Supply Chain. This experience will offer valuable insights into the luxury fashion industry and help me develop practical skills in a global context. I’m looking forward to applying what I’ve learned at Surrey and seeing how this internship shapes my career path moving forward.
