"Studying the Human Nutrition MSc at Surrey was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. If I were to choose again, I'd choose Surrey every time."

What were the best things about your course?

I learnt so much during my MSc, but the biggest takeaway was having a masters qualification. When I went into work I really felt like it gave me a step up. I also learnt how to critically evaluate research during this time which has been an invaluable skill. With the rise of social media trends in nutrition, health and wellness, I'm constantly evaluating the research which enables me to myth-bust some of the ever-growing trends. Additionally, during this time, I learnt so much about human nutrition and how to translate the science into layman's terms and use it to work with individuals.

I thoroughly enjoyed the small classes and found that as a cohort we really bonded and worked together on some great projects. I still keep up to date with what some of my course friends are doing.

What do you do now? How did your degree from Surrey help you achieve this?

I run a nutrition consultancy company – Jenna Hope Nutrition – where we work with individuals, consult for brands and the media, and work with corporate companies. My degree really helped me get set up as it gave people the confidence in my knowledge and encouraged them to take a chance on me when I didn't have much experience. Studying the Human Nutrition MSc at Surrey was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It was a fantastic year; I learnt so much and I loved the environment, the lecturers and everything about Surrey! If I were to choose again, I'd choose Surrey every time.

"I've had some incredibly exciting opportunities since graduating and I am so grateful that Surrey fed my passion for nutrition and gave me the confidence to believe in myself."

What’s your advice to current students?

Work hard, believe in yourself and have a vision. When you're at university it can often feel quite scary to think about what's to come next. I've had some incredibly exciting opportunities since graduating and I am so grateful that Surrey fed my passion for nutrition and gave me the confidence to believe in myself.

Believing in yourself is one of the hardest challenges but if you have something you want to go for, don't be shy. Work hard, don't take no for an answer and problem-solve until you achieve what you're looking for.

For any aspiring nutritionists, please feel free to reach out. I'd always love to speak to you.
