"I chose Surrey not only for its lovely campus, but because the course offers so much variety, which gives me the opportunity to discover what I would like to do with my career in nutrition."

What do you like about your course and why?

I have always had an interest in nutrition and healthy living since I was a teenager. I chose Surrey not only for its lovely campus, but because the course offers so much variety, which gives me the opportunity to discover what I would like to do with my career in nutrition. The lecturers are all very knowledgeable, approachable and always offer support to students when they need it.

What do you enjoy most about Surrey?

I love the campus at Surrey! I think it is a perfect mix of the countryside but with the buzz of Guildford. Everything is so close by including the Sports Park and supermarkets, making life as a student here very manageable. There is so much variety in all the clubs and societies which bring so many opportunities to meet new people, try out new things and expand your circle of friends. When I came to the University, I joined the rowing club which has been a great experience outside of my studies and has taught me lots about myself. I also work as a Student Ambassador which means I interact with prospective students which I enjoy very much. This has developed my communication and presentation skills which will definitely aid me in my future career and has also given me the opportunity to mix with academics and others studying the same course.

What do you want to do when you graduate?

I have always liked the idea of doing a master’s degree in nutrition as I quite enjoy the academic environment and it would give me some more experience when applying for future jobs. I would like a job that involves working with and teaching people about the importance of nutrition and what a significant part it plays in our everyday lives. Diet plays such a fundamental role in preventing many medical conditions and prolonging people’s quality of life which is an area I am very much interested in.

What advice would you give to students thinking of studying course?

Visit the University by coming to one of our open days and offer holder days. This will allow you to get a feel for the campus and see if you can picture yourself studying here. I would also encourage you to attend subject talks and ask as many questions as possible to academics or student ambassadors to ask them about their experience at Surrey and to find out more about the course. To any student who attends university my biggest piece of advice would be to embrace the experience by attending lectures, to join a club or society and to make the most out of being a student!
