Research

Our research is interdisciplinary in nature: it lies at the interface between physics and biomedicine, and between physics and engineering. Our research is focused in one of a few themes: soft matter, biological physics (dynamics of complex systems, bionanotechnology, and synthetic biology), medical physics, and perovskite radiation detectors, each of which has their own page.

Most of our research is inspired by real-world problems, problems from medicine, from security, from our need to enjoy a high standard of living while placing a sustainable burden on the Earth. In our research, we develop new physics and often work in interdisciplinary teams, and combine experiment and modelling.

We have collaborators across the campus, from the Royal Surrey County Hospital, across the UK and the world. One of our academics, Dr Izabela Jurewicz, has a joint appointment with Advanced Material Development (AMD).
