Pay, pension and rewards

From generous pensions to discounts and loans, we offer various forms of financial support to our staff.

Salary scales

Pension

We currently offer employees the opportunity to join one of two generous occupational pension schemes. For those on grade L03 and above this is the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), and the University Of Surrey Pension Plan for those on grade L01 and L02. Full details will be made available on appointment.

Loans and schemes

Travelling to work

We have a number of ways for you to get to and from our campuses, from car shares, a cycle-to-work scheme and a season ticket loan for public transport.

Immigration loans

For staff coming to work for the University of Surrey from outside of the UK, we cover the cost of your own visa to enable your work. Where you have addition immigration costs for your family and the National Health Service surcharge, low-rate interest loans are available for up to five years, to help you pay for these.

Hardship loans

Whilst we pay all our staff a fair wage, sometimes you may need additional funds fast to help you through a difficult time. Hardship loans are available, dependent on personal circumstances.

Employee discounts

IT product discounts

Our staff can take advantage of discounts on products from Apple, Dell and Microsoft.

Shopping discounts

All members of University staff are entitled to great discounts by signing up for the Totum discount card. You can also access discounts via a UniDays account.

Surrey Sports Park

Surrey Sports Park has established itself as a top-class sporting venue, attracting world class events such as Lacrosse and Rugby World Cups, as well as playing host to Olympic teams and other professional sports teams. As a member of staff you are eligible for a discounted price of £40 per month for full membership which gives you access to a huge range of sports and gym options.

Give as you earn

Payroll Giving allows you to donate tax-free to any charity, good cause or multiple causes with one deduction from your pay. So every £5 you donate through Payroll Giving costs you no more than £4.
