Green Impact

Green Impact is a UNESCO multi-award winning sustainability engagement programme set up by Students Organising for Sustainability UK. The scheme aims to support sustainable practices across organisations by guiding individual departments on how they can take sustainable action in an accessible and meaningful way.

Green Impact at Surrey

Green Impact has been running at the University since October 2023. Departments from both academic and professional services have got involved, forming teams to actively work through set sustainability criteria. Actions include putting up energy saving stickers and promoting the University’s recycling scheme.

The aim is to build a community of staff and students at Surrey who are working together towards a more sustainable future – both at work and at home.

At the end of the year, departments are awarded either a participation, bronze, silver or gold award, with each department’s achievements celebrated at the Sustainability Awards.

Get involved

Green Impact is a cyclical process, starting in October and finishing in April. Staff members from across the University can sign up at any point.

Students are encouraged to support their departments in taking part in Green Impact. There is also opportunity to gain IEMA accredited training to audit teams at the end of the process.
