The best thing about Surrey is the diverse group of people who study here and the close, friendly community. I’ve met people from all over the world which has allowed me to grow a professional network and build strong communication skills.

When you choose a masters course that you enjoy, at an institution that delivers it at an amazing quality, you naturally become motivated, driven and excited to learn.

The tutors are always happy to help if you have questions via email or after class, while students are encouraged to innovate and be creative during assessments and conduct research themselves under guidance.

I loved doing experimental research and working with semiconductor devices! I also developed my data analysis and coding skills, and became familiar with how a research team operates in industry.

The lecturers go above and beyond for students. There is an open office policy, which enables students to contact teaching staff at any time. This availability and readiness to support students is impressive.

I’ve learned an unbelievable amount through covering the General Election, by relaying live pictures and communications from one point to another.

Bowei Li is a PhD research student at our Advanced Technology Institute who originally studied for his undergraduate and masters degrees in China. At Surrey, he's working on next generation solar power cells and he’s just had his first academic journal paper published.
