CHOOSING SURREY

I decided to come to Surrey immediately after having the course recommended by an old teacher at my college. My first impression was that it was a diverse and welcoming community that I felt I could easily fit into.

YOUR COURSE

I’m passionate about the Creative Music Technology course because it’s so unique. It has taught me to think outside the box and has challenged me to compose within genres of music I didn’t even know about three years ago. It appealed to me as it explored electronic music genres that I had never even heard of, and I was really excited by the idea of learning about and making new kinds of music- I wanted a challenge.

I really like the variety of music we study, and I really like how flexible the pathways are- there are a number of different modules available so I can choose which route I want to go down.

STAFF AND FACILITIES

The staff at Surrey are so knowledgeable and it’s so admirable and encouraging to see this- all of them are experts on what they teach and they so clearly love their specialist subjects and are more than happy to help out whenever.

YOUR LIFE HERE

Guildford is so scenic, but also close to my home in London, so it’s perfectly positioned for me. I lived in University accommodation so could easily access my lectures and the library, and I still spend lots of time on campus in one of the many coffee shops with my friends. I am also part of ‘Presha’, a DJ society.

LOOKING BACK

My best moment at Surrey has been performing DJ sets at Rubix, the onsite campus club, and in 'The Basement' for student nights out. Opportunities like these mean I’ve definitely become much more confident in myself, and I feel way more comfortable in my own skin since starting university.

LOOKING FORWARD

When I graduate, I will definitely apply for internships in the music industry – the big names like UMG Music and Sony.
