'A foundation year will help you transition to studying away from home while strengthening your knowledge and preparing you for your first year.'

Why did you choose to do a foundation year?

After dealing with educational disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided that pursuing a foundation year would be the most effective way to rebuild my knowledge. I also saw it as an ideal stepping stone between my A-Levels and my future studies.

What did you enjoy about it?

The bridge between knowledge I already had and new knowledge which set me up for first year. Also being part of a smaller cohort made it easier to make friends and adjust to living away from home.

What support have you received at Surrey?

I received support for my learning and exams, as well as chemistry-related coursework. I also got support for my dyslexia, ensuring I had extra time during exams.

How has your foundation year had an impact on you?

It provided me with the opportunity to grow as a person and gain knowledge, giving me the chance to live on my own and enhance what I already know.

What advice do you have for students thinking of doing a foundation year?

A foundation year will help you transition to studying away from home while strengthening your knowledge and preparing you for your first year.
