"I would recommend a university that not only provides you with a strong academic base, but throws you into a condensed version of the real world..."
Graduation year
2010Alan is the Managing Director for the Middle East & Africa region for EcoMatPro, a Singapore headquartered manufacturing business which developed a revolutionary & patented manufacturing process for bamboo, thus enabling the creation of ultra-high-density profiles which can replace traditional timber or plastics across multiple product lines, and thereby reduce the felling of trees or reliance on CO2e-heavy processes.
Founding the MENA region in 2022, Alan has helped EcoMatPro become a preferred partner to multiple giga-projects in the region, where their products provide eco-friendly and engineered bamboo for use as temporary roads, boardwalks, decking, and other architectural features, whilst simultaneously reducing the demand for plastics or hardwood timber. EcoMatPro regenerative bamboo plantations further enhance the business’ positive environmental impact as a carbon-sink as well as providing local-content to under-privileged areas.
As Managing Director, he leads all business functions from investment, supply & demand growth, and operations, with past experience in the Commercial Real Estate and Project Management sectors.
Alan is passionate about positive impact and people, trusting in the development of both as a winning formula for business. On a personal note, he believes a key aspect to his success is the ability to be versatile with people and circumstance as they arise:
“The broad Business Management degree and its elective modules have enabled me to excel across all parts of a business by providing knowledge and working practice in various skill sets; the diversity of students and campus life at the University also provides experience interacting with various cultures and norms. Being internationally based now, I can say that Surrey was a vital element to being successful in a new environment. With the world becoming more and more integrated, I would recommend a university that not only provides you with a strong academic base, but throws you into a condensed version of the real world, in a challenging, well regarded, and highly fun environment that will help you navigate the years to come”.
