Loughborough University: Centre for Mathematical Cognition

The Centre for Mathematical Cognition aims to harness insights from basic research on cognition to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics throughout all stages of education. The centre is also host to the ESRC Centre for Early Mathematics Learning, led by Professor Camilla Gilmore, which focuses on early mathematics learning in preschool and the first years of primary school. It carries out interdisciplinary studies to explore the variety of cognitive, social and environmental influences on mathematics learning and works with educators and families to design educational activities and translate research into practice.
