About

We are made up of academics, research staff, postgraduate research students, visiting and emeritus staff as well as technical staff.

Recent developments

In recent years, we have been instrumental in the development of silica based thermoluminescent dosimetry, leading to the creation of the company Trueinvivo, who use high precision radiation dosimeters to ensure more accurate dose delivery to cancer patients. We also collaborated with HEXITEC which has led to a commercial spectroscopic X-ray imaging device.

Links with industry

We have strong links with the Royal Surrey County Hospital’s Medical Physics Department, as the Head of the Department, Professor Andrew Nisbet also works here at the University, as well as to the Medical Radiation Physics and Neutron Metrology group at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and industry partners.

Doctoral research

Recently, we have contributed to the establishment of the Radiation Detection Doctoral Network, bringing together industries and university partners to fund doctoral research.
