Surrey academics visit SII-DUFE

Professor Amelia Hadfield, Associate VP for External Engagement, Professor Emma Mayhew, Academic Pro-Vice Chancellor of Education (Interim), and SBS Director of Learning and Teaching, Anna Holland, went to Dalian in northern China to attend the SII-DUFE graduation ceremony.

This year, the graduation was combined with the SII-10-year anniversary celebrations for the 2014 alumni cohort, ‘Echoes of Summer’, an occasion full of celebratory activities marking this milestone. More than 60 alumni and their families came back to SII, re-live campus memories and express their gratitude and support to SII.

Amelia said: “I was absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to join SII students, their family and friends, for the SII 2024 graduation event. It was a truly special occasion, full of excitement at accomplishing hard-won educational credentials during exceptionally challenging times. It was wonderful to meet SII alumni, and to finish off the day with the (literally) all-singing, all-dancing talents of our SII students on full display!”

Amelia, Emma and Anna also attended a number of key meetings with senior colleagues at DUFE, to discuss ongoing changes and improvements to teaching, governance and student experience.

As part of the trip, Anna ran some training workshops for academic staff at SII-DUFE. She added: "it was a pleasure to spend time with many academic colleagues to explore key aspects of learning and teaching. The graduation ceremony and alumni event were a great opportunity to meet with students and parents and to celebrate their success. The gala performance showcasing the singing and dancing skills of many of our SII DUFE students was a fantastic culmination of the graduation celebrations".

Amelia visited DUFE School of International Studies (SIS) together with Dexter Yang from Student Recruitment to discuss potential for recruitment of their students into Surrey business, computing, accounting and finance programmes.
