How we celebrate LGBTQIA+ equality
Our university community is made up of outstanding contributions and collaborations from staff, students and alumni with diverse identities. Inclusion is important every day of the year. While we proudly mark and celebrate specific awareness days and months, we are committed to making meaningful change every day. Discover how we celebrate LGBTQIA+ equality.
LGBT History Month
The University seeks to celebrate its LGBTQIA+ students and staff and acknowledge and educate ourselves on the contributions and accomplishments of the LGBTQIA+ community in our history.
LGBT History Month takes place every February. The University flies the Rainbow Flag throughout the month and organises various events to celebrate.

Awareness days
The University is also proud to recognise and celebrate numerous LGBTQIA+ awareness days:
- Trans Day of Remembrance – a vigil is held to remember those who have been victims of transphobia
- Bi Visibility Day
- International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia
Rainbow crossing
We are also proud to be the first university in the UK to have a permanent rainbow crossing. This crossing is at the main entrance to the Stag Hill campus and stands as another powerful statement of the University’s commitment to supporting our LGBTQIA+ community.
