Global Talent visa

The Global Talent visa is available for talented and promising individuals in the fields of science, engineering, medicine and humanities, digital technology and arts and culture who wish to pursue their career in the UK.

The Global Talent visa is part of the Government’s commitment to put science, research and innovation at the top of its agenda. allowing researchers, academics and other specialists to work and live in the UK. The Global Talent visa replaced the Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) visa on the 20 February 2020.

Global Talent visa costs 

Information on the costs related to the Global Talent endorsement and visa application.

The Global Talent visa fee is payable in two parts: 

  • Stage 1: endorsement fee 
  • Stage 2: visa application fee and Immigration Health Surcharge fee.

The Eligibility to Work Policy sets out which of these costs can be reclaimed as expenses and which the University can support you with via our Loan Scheme.   

Please be aware that the University does not reimburse for the cost of priority services, premium biometrics, enhanced service points, IELTS or Ecctis. 

You will be able to claim the costs / and or apply for a loan for relevant fees once you have commenced employment with the University. The University will repay the visa costs for your Global Talent visa under each of the GTV routes. However, to claim visa costs for those obtained via peer review, you will be required to evidence that you application was as a direct result of an offer from the University of Surrey.

Initial Global Talent application  

Endorsement and visa fees 

The following table shows the cost of the initial Global talent endorsement and visa fees.  

Immigration Health (NHS) Surcharge is also payable at £624 per year, or £470 for applicants under the age of 18 and is based on the duration of the visa) is added on top of this. For more information please see the Government guidance.

*If an endorsement application is refused, the £456 endorsement fee is not not refunded by the Home Office.

Biometric information 

If applying in the UK, an additional charge of £19.20 will need to be paid for fingerprints / and photo.  

Card payments  

If a 'Family Group' visa application is being submitted within the UK for the main applicant and dependants, the visa application fee and Immigration Health (NHS) Surcharge will be charged as one combined fee which cannot be split across more than one payment card. Applicants may need to contact their bank before they pay with their card to avoid this being stopped or delayed as an unusually large purchase.
