My placement year really helped me to grow as an engineer and become more confident in my ability to solve engineering problems in industry. I’ve also gained invaluable teamworking experience and greatly improved my communication and time management skills.

My time at Surrey has improved my chances of employability immensely. The beauty about Surrey is that they prioritise both academic and professional development, as most courses offer some sort of placement year, and really set you up for professional life once you graduate.

We’re so lucky to have such incredible teaching staff and lecturers in the language department and due to the smaller cohort sizes, they really get to know every individual they teach.

Undoubtedly the best part of this course is the variation in content. Throughout my first year alone we have studied history, culture, politics, translation, early language development and linguistic history, just to name a few.

Both of my supervisors have been very supportive in my PhD journey. Their expertise in the subject has provided me with valuable insights and I really look up to them as people and as researchers. They have always been around to guide, despite their busy schedules, and at the same time have encouraged me to work independently.

I’m proud to say I’ve been accepted onto the highly competitive Scientist Training Programme. Being an overseas student, I didn’t hold out much hope of success. But with the knowledge acquired during my MSc and the support from the academic staff at Surrey, I’ve secured a place.

My research investigates the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of an online, two-week compassionate imagery intervention for veterinarian mental health.
