Your time at Surrey
It was the esteemed reputation of the Centre for Translation Studies (CTS) in Surrey, and Dr Lin’s interpreting course, that led me to pursue my MA at Surrey. After a year of study and living in Guildford, I can confidently say that this academic journey has been immensely rewarding. It has provided me with the opportunity to transition from an engineering background student to the study and application of language. The CTS curriculum not only offers a high level of academic teaching but also incorporates practical skills training, equipping graduates with a competitive edge in the language services industry upon completion. The faculty at CTS is composed of highly skilled professionals who have provided me with invaluable support and guidance throughout my year of study. Dr. Lin’s unique approach to interpreting training, coupled with weekly assessments, kept me consistently engaged in continuous practice. This proved instrumental in swiftly achieving tangible results in my skill development.
Life after Surrey
Dr Lin’s company, KL Communications, provided graduates with opportunities to observe interpreting at conferences and practice translation. I was fortunate to engage in several translation practices, receiving training in professional translation that immersed me in authentic language service scenarios. Subsequently, I pursued CELTA certification training in London, further expanding my career paths. This journey reinforced my understanding of language teaching and developed my abilities in both teaching and public speaking. As a language learner, I believe that spreading culture and facilitating communication are essential missions. Consequently, I have chosen to become a guide at The British Museum, where I share the histories and cultures of the East and West with diverse visitors. In this role, I am dedicated to being a practitioner of East-West cultural exchange.
