Why did you choose to come to Surrey?

I think that the University of Surrey’s campus was one of the most important factors that made me choose Surrey. The campus environment is close to nature and it is more like a park where you can chill rather than just a place to study. Moreover, the location of campus is also a critical factor, a 10-minute walking distance to Guildford railway station and a 40-minute train ride to central London. So... you can finish your class on a Friday morning on campus and then enjoy an afternoon tea at the bankside on the River Thames!

Why are you passionate about your subject?

Today the development of the world is driven by data. I believe that I can connect business development with the analysis of data more efficiently and precisely by studying Business Analytics in Surrey Business School.

What are the academic staff and facilities like on your course?

All the academic staff are very friendly and have their own teaching styles. They are dedicated to imparting as much knowledge as possible to you. The academic facilities are all cutting-edge level and help you acquire and practise the theoretical knowledge you learnt in class in a quicker and easier way.

What course did you study before, and where did you study?

Environmental engineering in Shanghai Maritime University.

Are you part of any clubs or societies? How have they contributed to your Surrey experience?

I joined the Canoe Club at the start of Semester 1. I have taken part in water polo sessions, river sessions and pool sessions and I learnt different canoeing skills from friendly club mates. There was one relaxing and cool kayak trip on the River Wey!

Have you lived in University accommodation? If so, what was it like?

In the past year, I lived in the Hazel Farm accommodation of University of Surrey. It is a quiet, peaceful and silent place, full of interesting plants and lovely animals (e.g. foxes and hedgehogs). There are a number of car park slots here where it's free to park. Also, you can lock your bikes in the warehouse behind each house.

What’s the best thing about living in University accommodation?

The high-level security gives you a full sense of safety in University accommodation. You don’t have to worry about the maintenance of facilities as the staff check them regularly and come to help you if you report any issue. Additionally, there are cleaning staff who come to your accommodation on a weekly basis.

What are the best things about life in general at Surrey?

Guildford is a very lovely town with its extreme safety and slow-paced life style. I truly love the Surrey Sports Park (SSP) and I like to work-out during my leisure time and visit the gym in SSP almost three or four-times per week.

Do you have any advice for students thinking about postgraduate study?

My advice for those who are hesitating about an offer from the University of Surrey, take it with confidence for your educational prospects! Surrey will provide you with a first class quality of education as well as support of advanced academic facilities. The impressive campus and extraordinary location make it a worthwhile choice. Surrey is also a good platform to link your academic study to your future employment. Your career will start as soon as you make your first step onto the University of Surrey’s campus!
