Studying at Surrey

I’ve always had a love for food and cooking, but more recently I’ve developed an interest in learning about its connection to health too. I love learning about the science behind what we eat as it’s so relevant to our daily lives, especially in a time when new diets and health trends are constantly emerging.

I like the fact that my course allows me to choose modules and tailor the content to my own interests. The course content is always varied but ties together in a way that gives you a well-rounded knowledge of food science and nutrition. I’ve also enjoyed the fact that some modules have practical elements as it gives you more variety day to day.

The teaching staff on the course are all so knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects, which makes learning about the topics even more enjoyable. My course is smaller than some others which means you can get to know everyone and there’s always a familiar face in lectures.

Student life

I lived in Manor Park in my first year which I really enjoyed. The location was so convenient for getting to campus and it was also right next to the Surrey Sports Park, which was great for me as I could walk to the gym. Living in shared flats was really sociable and was where I met some of my closest friends!

The thing I’ve enjoyed the most about Surrey is the social life. I’ve made friends for life and have so many great memories from the time I’ve spent here. The campus always feels so lively as there are always activities and events going on, with something to suit everyone.

Looking forward

I'm planning to apply for graduate jobs towards the end of my final year. I feel very thankful that I was able to do a placement which has given me a good idea of the direction I want to go in after graduation. I also feel better prepared to enter the working world having already had a taste of it and I’m hoping that having the experience on my CV will make it easier to find roles!
