"...if you want a vibrant, all positive vibes place that will teach you a lot – this is MA FADA."

Why did you choose to study your course at Surrey?

I already knew that Surrey University has amazing facilities and all kinds of different opportunities for the students before coming here. And when I found the new Film, Animation and Digital Arts (FADA) course, I just instantly knew I had to be part of it.

What drew me to it was the amazing things that I was going to learn, all the software, all the techniques. And most importantly, it wasn’t going to be just theory – a lot of hands-on projects are part of the course. I knew when I read what the course would combine, that I would learn a lot and that was my goal.

What are the best things about Surrey and your course?

The best thing about my course are my course mates and our leader of FADA, Jon Weinbren. At first I was nervous about fitting in, will I be able to cope with all the material, with the new people and everything? But we like one family and I am so grateful for the team here. We just clicked and can rely on each other's help in the projects or in just everyday life.

Jon is amazing with us, he gives us all the opportunities we would want and would like; he guides us through the learning process and, if we need anything or we have a question, he is there.

What are the best things about life here as a postgraduate student?

The freedom of choosing your projects, the freedom to explore the subjects you want to. As a postgraduate you are now in charge of your career and what you want to create, and what you want to show to the world. And at the University of Surrey, and on my course particularly, this is very much encouraged. Show what you are capable of and do it while working with the amazing people here.

What are your career plans?

My plan is to build up career in the industry of animation and VFX. Now I am exploring a lot of new software in my studies, I plan on build up on them so I can continue my career in animation.

What advice do you have for students thinking of doing this course?

Just do it! If you are interested in the creative industry, you have the creative urge and passion for animation, movies or games – this is the place.

As an example – before coming here I was more focused on fine art, paintings, murals and sculptures, but I knew I wanted to be in the movie/animation industry. When I first started the course I knew almost nothing about animation software or 3D-modelling. Now, with the help of my course leader and all the teachers, I am confident in my skills and can’t wait to learn more about creating environments, compositing, animation and characters.

So if you want a vibrant, all positive vibes place that will teach you a lot – this is MA FADA.
