Why did you choose to study your course at Surrey

After completing an undergraduate degree in Biology, I had a particular interest in ecology, climate change, and sustainable development. The MSc course at Surrey covered a lot of the topics I was interested in and had good examples of the roles that previous graduates had gone on to.

What are the best things about Surrey and your course?

The course had a great balance of traditional teaching with interesting speakers and case studies. I also thought the format of the course was brilliant, giving us the time to really engage and focus on each particular topic.

What are the best things about life here as a postgraduate student?

Nice campus in a good location, great library facilities.

What are your career plans?

I currently lead all the CSR and Sustainability activity of a global technology company. I enjoy working with businesses that are earlier on in their sustainability journey, and setting up structures and processes to reduce their environmental impact and make a positive contribution to society.

What advice do you have for students thinking of doing this course?

Do it! And take every opportunity offered. I found the industrial placement a brilliant foot in the door, and the connections I made through the guest speakers that gave presentations during the modules helped me to secure my first role in sustainability soon after graduation.
