Course
Chemical Engineering MEngWhat were the best things about your course?
One of the best parts of the course was the process operations and management module in third year. It provided me with the opportunity to use the theoretical knowledge I had gained throughout the course in a practical setting by working on the pilot plant. I was also able to continue working on the plant in my master's year and over the summer as part of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) programme which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Another thing I enjoyed about the course was the mixture of modules each semester. There were generally at least one or two core modules a semester where you gained a lot of technical knowledge on specific aspects of chemical engineering such as heat transfer or thermodynamics. These were then supplemented with modules which focused more on the broader picture. These were generally more open ended and focused more on the sustainability side of engineering which provided a nice change of pace and influenced my career choices.
What do you do now? How did your degree from Surrey help you achieve this?
I am currently enjoying a planned career break before starting a graduate process engineering role later in the year.

What’s your advice to current students?
My advice to current students would be to get involved in as many things as you can both within and outside of your degree.
While there are plenty of opportunities provided to you during your studies, it's essential to take an active role in seeking them out. This will help you maximise your own university experience and also stand out once you graduate.
