Entry year
2019Choosing Surrey
After looking into several options, making the decision to go to Surrey was an easy one! Surrey has a lovely campus, close to, yet not in London, as well as a great atmosphere. One of the main reasons I chose Surrey was the number of optional modules they offer on my course compared to other universities I was interested in which didn’t have such a wide variety of up-to-date marketing modules.
Before I officially moved to Surrey, my first impression was of the campus, after starting my course, I found out more about the little places around university such as the MySurrey Hive, on-campus coffee shops and the long list of events that happen every week. It’s a very interactive university and they really do care about the student experience!
My course
I love my course, I have been able to select a wide variety of my modules and focus on what interests me the most. The university often put on events and Surrey Business School arrange guest lectures with highly successful people in the industry. Despite Covid-19, they are still offering this, just over Zoom.
I also recently found out that the university offers financial funding for start-ups if students have a good idea, which I find incredible. And more importantly, some of the modules teach you how to pitch ideas and create a business plan. They really do teach you valuable skills here!
The academics on my course all have years of industry experience which they bring into their lectures and seminars. They are all incredibly helpful and always available to reach via email. Since the Covid-19 outbreak, the academics have been really attentive, they care not just about your academic results, but also about everything else that is going on.
Surrey life
I have loved living at university, meeting friends and the culture. I am an international student, so it is very different from home, but I’m so happy I get to experience life in the UK. I am a strong believer in being a product of the people you surround yourself with.
Having made great friends and amazing memories, whilst continuously learning from industry professionals has made me think differently to before university and I would say I’ve definitely changed since starting at Surrey.
During the pandemic
My university experience hasn’t been as expected due to Covid-19, naturally, most of the social aspect has been lacking which has been difficult. However, the university is really trying their best to keep everyone safe and provide helpful teaching materials and I look forward to when we can return to campus. In the past year and a half, I have learnt so much, about myself, and my chosen course, and I have been provided with skills that I am excited to build on in the future.
