Master of Business Administration MBA

Your career

I am a marketing professional, with over 20 years’ experience gained at companies such as American Express, Aviva, The AA, British Gas, Royal Bank of Scotland. My most recent job was working in a start-up (Fleet Mortgages) where I set-up the marketing and product development departments. At the moment I am working on starting my own business.

I felt my career was stagnating and I needed a new challenge which would give me a confidence boost. I wanted to make sure I was ready for the next phase in my career.

Your experience

I am thoroughly enjoying the MBA. I have learnt so much and, most importantly I'm feeling mentally challenged and stimulated. There are plenty of opportunities available across the university, you just have to hunt them down.

Course benefits and achievements

The modules on the course are all interconnected so this gives you a good overall grounding in business. If I had to pick one part of the course then it would the strategy module as that is my area of interest, I've learnt new skills which will help me to start my own business.

My proudest moment on the MBA was when I was asked to deliver a presentation and run a group activity, as these allowed me to share my knowledge and experience with my cohort.

Your advice

I'd definitely recommend the Surrey MBA, the course content is great and you get to meet amazing people. The high standard of teaching will challenge you and grow your confidence and skills. When you start the MBA journey, come with an open mind, if you do that then you will get the most out of the course.
