Artificial Intelligence MScWhy did you choose to study your course at Surrey?
I chose to study my course at the University of Surrey because of its excellent academic reputation, particularly in Computer Vision, where it ranks first in the UK according to CS ranking. The university's location in Guildford also played a big part in my decision.
The town is not only safe but also offers a beautiful setting with plenty of outdoor activities, like biking, which I enjoy.
Additionally, being just 30 minutes by train from London gives me easy access to the city’s opportunities, while still offering a peaceful, inspiring environment for my studies. Overall, Surrey feels like the perfect place to learn and grow.
What are the best things about Surrey and your course?
Surrey offers a fantastic academic experience with a high-quality course programme that is well-structured and engaging.
The professors are experts in their fields, with impressive track records in top-tier publications, which greatly enhances the learning environment.
What I enjoy most about being here is the campus itself; it is truly beautiful, and I often find myself sitting by the Stag Hill lakeside, watching the birds. This peaceful setting makes studying here a rewarding experience, combining both academic excellence and a serene, inspiring atmosphere for personal growth and reflection. It's a perfect balance between education and nature.
What are the best things about life here as a postgraduate student?
One of the best things about life here as a postgraduate student is the chance to meet and make friends from all over the world, which allows me to learn about different cultures and perspectives. I also enjoy spending time with them, whether it’s having a drink, going to parties, playing badminton, or even travelling together. Additionally, I appreciate the opportunity to work closely with dedicated PhD students who provide valuable guidance on my dissertation and offer support in publishing research in leading AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, CVPR). This combination of social and academic experiences makes postgraduate life both rewarding and fulfilling.
What are your career plans?
Having completed my degree, my career plans are focused on building a strong foundation in research and technology. The advanced thesis topics I worked on, combined with the excellent support from Surrey's careers team, have provided me with valuable industry insights and professional guidance. I plan to extend my research for publication in reputable venues, which will help me strengthen my profile. Ultimately, I aim to secure a PhD position or a research scientist role in a leading tech company, where I can continue to innovate and make meaningful contributions to the field.
