My course

I've always been the curious type, and when it comes to computers and data, I get a thrill out of exploring their secrets. Information security feels like a puzzle to me, and I'm passionate about protecting valuable information from those who might want to misuse it. It's a bit like being a digital detective, and I love the challenge.

I love that my course is all about first-hand experience and not just theory. We get to work with real tools and technology, which is pretty exciting. Also, the discussions in class are always fascinating, especially when we talk about the latest cyber threats and how to stay one step ahead of them. It's like being at the forefront of a digital battlefield.

The professors here are fantastic, and they're always happy to help with anything. They make complex topics seem so much more understandable. Plus, the labs and research resources are top-notch. It's pretty cool to have access to all these cutting-edge facilities. I feel like I have everything I need to really excel in this field.

My life here

I am part of the Krishna Society and it's been such a heart-warming experience being a part of the community, sharing our traditions and festivities. Plus, being the course rep for the MSc Information Security (now known as MSc Cyber Security) students has given me a chance to advocate for us and build a stronger bond with my peers.

I've been living in the University accommodation, and it's been pretty sweet. What I really love is the inclusive vibe. It's not just a place to stay; it's a whole experience. Knowing that any issues will be taken care of promptly is a real relief, especially when you're focused on your studies and want a stress-free living environment.

Help with my career

Since I began my course in September 2023, I've actively participated in the various career events and workshops organized by the Careers and Employability team at Surrey University. These initiatives have not only provided valuable insights into different industries but have also facilitated networking opportunities with several esteemed companies. Through these interactions, I've gained substantial guidance on industry requirements and the necessary skills for career advancement.

Even though I am still studying, my time at Surrey has already positively influenced my employability outlook. The exposure to real-world scenarios and the diverse perspectives shared by industry professionals during university events have broadened my understanding of the corporate world. Engaging with companies and learning about their recruitment processes has helped me grasp the expectations and requirements of the job market, enhancing my readiness for future employment opportunities.

My Surrey experience

My most cherished memory at Surrey has been participating in the Cyber Security hackathon event, where I not only collaborated with peers but also engaged in Capture The Flag (CTF), Ethical Hacking (ETH), and Game Ball 4.0 competitions. Emerging victorious was a testament to our collective skills and relentless teamwork in an exhilarating yet collaborative environment. These events further solidified my passion for cybersecurity and allowed me to apply my knowledge in practical and challenging scenarios.

My advice for students thinking of postgraduate study

For students considering postgraduate study, I would encourage them to be proactive in exploring various research opportunities, networking with industry professionals, and leveraging the university's career services. Engaging in extracurricular activities and workshops can also enhance their overall learning experience and broaden their future career prospects.

Looking ahead

Upon completing my postgraduate course at Surrey, I aim to pursue a career in the cybersecurity industry, leveraging the skills and knowledge I've gained to contribute to the development of robust security solutions and combat evolving cyber threats.

My time at Surrey has been nothing short of enriching and transformative. The supportive academic environment, along with the dynamic student community, has facilitated a holistic learning experience. I am grateful for the opportunities, guidance, and friendships that have shaped my journey at Surrey University.
