Course
Psychology BSc (Hons)Studying at Surrey
I have a keen interest in exploring the intricacies of the brain and studying psychology allows me to delve deeper into its functions and complexities.
I like that the Psychology BSc course at Surrey takes a practical approach, giving you hands-on experience like lab work and the opportunity to work with electroencephalography (EEG). I also like that we cover diverse fields of psychology as it allows me to explore specific areas of interest.
The computer lab has been particularly beneficial, especially during lab workshops involving advanced statistics. We have access to the required software, Jamovi, which was readily available on the computers, and working together allowed us to collaborate and seek assistance from both peers and instructors.
My Professional Training placement
I undertook my Professional Training placement year at University College London as a research assistant.
I supported my supervisor in various tasks such as drafting reports, designing questionnaires and recruiting participants for her projects. I also assisted in her clinic by assessing children with Williams Syndrome and preparing reports for their evaluations.
My confidence and independence grew from doing the placement and I also gained a better understanding of what I wanted to do in the future.
Life at Surrey
I really enjoy Surrey Sports Park. It's easily accessible and has a variety of activities that appeal to me as a very sports-oriented individual.
My best moment at Surrey so far was when it snowed here. My friends and I went outside and built a snowman and had a snowball fight!
I've had the privilege of making friends that I now consider as close as family, and I'm grateful to Surrey for providing me with the chance to continually connect with new people. I’ve learnt to step out of my comfort zone and become more outgoing.
Looking forward
When I graduate, I want to pursue a masters degree in clinical neuroscience at UCL. After that, my goal is to enter the field of neuropsychiatry.
