What did you do on your placement year?

During my placement year I was fortunate enough to land an internship at a leading City of London based financial consultancy firm. At Maitland/amo, I was heavily involved in the PR team as well the Public Affairs team which provided me with a fantastic opportunity to utilise some of my degree developed political knowledge.

What did you do on your placement?

In my role as an Analyst, I assisted senior colleagues and larger cross border teams in acquiring new business and managing stakeholder/investor relations. As part of my public affairs work, I had the chance to work with official government delegations, managing crucial aspects of inter-state relations between the UK and a particular member state of the Commonwealth in a high stakes environment. This was definitely a key highlight and allowed me to expand my professional network on a huge scale.

Would you recommend a placement year?

Having successfully completed a placement, I can wholeheartedly recommend the experience to other prospective students. Gaining experience in a corporate environment is invaluable in terms of marketability when it comes to post university employment options. Having working experience sets you apart from the sea of graduates that you will invariably be competing with but also, the professional skills you develop such as time management and communication will greatly help you in your final year of university. By undertaking a placement you will develop as an individual but you will also open up your post-university options ten-fold.
