University of Surrey in top fifteen for postgraduate research experience for second year

The University of Surrey has been ranked 13th overall in the AdvanceHE Postgraduate Research Experience Survey 2021 and 2022.

AdvanceHE ranked Surrey 13th for overall satisfaction and 6th for facilities, resources, and online provision out of 58 other institutions. The Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) is the only higher education sector-wide survey to gain insight from postgraduate researchers (PGRs) directly.

David Sampson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation said: “I am delighted that our PGRs continue to show strong support for their experience at Surrey – sitting as they do at the heart of our research, innovation and teaching. I am particularly gratified that the Doctoral College’s dedicated support and development of PGRs at the university was widely praised in the survey.”

The Doctoral College commissions an in-depth statistical analysis of the responses to PRES each year to identify the issues that matter most to our PGRs. This work is part of the ongoing commitment to student experience university wide and will influence action plans at every level.

Kate Gleeson, Director of the Doctoral College said: “Our PGRs play a vital role in the life and work of Surrey, and they make me proud every single day. It takes a whole University, and many external collaborators and partners, working together to provide the optimal environment in which to begin a career founded on research. These very positive results are due to the hard work of our inspiring supervisors, technicians, post docs, and professional services teams that work with and around our PGRs to ensure they have everything they need to excel.”
