Surrey professor awarded prestigious second term as NIHR Senior Investigator
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) has awarded Professor Jill Maben OBE from the University of Surrey a second four-year term as an NIHR Senior Investigator in a highly competitive process.

Professor Maben is now one of only three NIHR Senior Investigators in the Kent, Surrey and Sussex region – and is the only nurse in this role in the region. She joins a community of around 200 NIHR Senior Investigators across the UK, providing senior leadership to advance health and care research.
In this role, Professor Maben is an NIHR ambassador helping to shape the future direction of healthcare research nationally in this country, drawing on her expertise across academia and the health and care system. Her contributions will include reviewing grant applications, joining key committees, and mentoring the next generation of researchers.
With a career dedicated to supporting the healthcare workforce to improve patient care, Professor Maben's research at Surrey has shaped policies on workforce psychological wellbeing, compassionate care, and patient experience. She previously led the National Nursing Research Unit at King's College London and has been recognised among the most influential leaders in healthcare. In 2014, she was awarded an OBE for services to nursing and healthcare.
