Surrey launches food share programme

The University has launched a new food share programme in a bid to reduce food waste on campus.

Sandwiches, paninis and bakery goods will be collected from all campus catering outlets and assembled at the Community Hub on Stag Hill campus every Thursday and Friday between 5:30pm and 7.30pm.

The items will be distributed for free on a first come, first served basis with a maximum of three items per person.

“We want to minimise our food waste and this way we can also help out students and staff who might need a bit of extra help with the cost of living crisis,” said Debbie Nottridge, Head of Catering.

The Catering Team's efforts to reduce food waste and provide staff and students with an active community fridge is a part of the University's ambition to embed the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This project tackles 'Zero Hunger' (SDG 2) and 'Responsible Consumption and Production' (SDG 12). Find out more about sustainable and ethical catering at the University
