Sociology ranked 2nd by The Times Good University Guide 2021

The University of Surrey’s Sociology BSc (Hons) course has been ranked 2nd place in The Times Good University Guide 2021 subject rankings.

The course has risen by 37 places since last year’s rankings, with the course offering a range of modules including: Conceptualising the Social WorldPopular Culture in Mediated SocietiesSocial Divisions and Social IdentitiesDrugs and Society; and Poverty, Welfare and The State.

Professor Jon Garland, Head of Sociology at the University of Surrey, said: “It’s very rewarding to see that the Department of Sociology has been ranked 2nd by The Times for sociology. Gaining such a high placing is excellent news and a reflection of the quality of our academic staff. We undertake cutting-edge research and this feeds into our teaching, providing our students with an exciting learning experience which is at the forefront of current debates in sociology”.

The Times Good University Guide 2021 produces annual league tables for UK universities and are based on nine key measures relevant to student experience, evaluating everything from satisfaction with teaching quality and the student experience, through to degree completion rates and graduate employment prospects.
