School of Law supports knife crime awareness campaign

The School of Law has joined up with Guildford Shakespeare Company (GSC),  the campaign charity Charlie’s Promise, PubWatch, Street Angels and ExperienceGuildford to raise awareness around the facts of knife crime at an event, ‘Put Up Your Swords’,  being held at Guildford Cathedral on 3 July.

Ahead of the event, Dr Katy Peters held a Knife Angel workshop in our Court of the Future on Saturday 8 June with GSC’s youth drama group.

The Peter Harrison Foundation has provided funding for a series of films and teaching materials to be used in outreach work as part of Guildford Cathedral’s Knife Angel legacy. These will be launched on 3 July.

Katy said: “We are delighted to be able to participate in this important event, in collaboration with such inspirational partners. The theatre of a courtroom creates an innovative teaching space. The scenarios explored in our Knife Angel-inspired workshops offer a powerful illustration of the catastrophic impact which violent and thoughtless decisions can have on both the victims of crime, and those whose actions cause harm, injury and death.”
