Maurizio has been serving as Head of School and a Professor of International Economics at the Lancaster University Management School. His research interests are in international trade and political economy. Maurizio received his PhD in Economics from Boston College and his BA in Economics from the Catholic University of Milan. Prior to joining Lancaster University as a Reader in 2013, he held positions at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Tilburg University, and the University of Glasgow.

As Head of School, Maurizio will also become a member of the Faculty’s senior management team.

Speaking about his time as Head of School, Professor João Santos said: "It has been a great pleasure and a privilege to serve the School of Economics in this role. I am very grateful to all the colleagues in the School, the Faculty, and the University, for the tremendous support I received during these 64 months; I would not have made it without their help."

Regarding the new appointment, Professor Graham Miller, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, commented: “I am delighted to welcome Professor Zanardi to the School of Economics. We conducted an extensive search for a candidate able to lead our exceptional group of staff at Surrey, and I am very excited to have secured Maurizio through this process.”

We are thrilled that Professor Zanardi will be joining the School of Economics and hope you can join our efforts in welcoming him to the wider University.
