Economics secures Athena Swan Bronze award
As part of its commitment to gender equality, Economics has been awarded the Athena Swan Bronze Award to recognise gender equality. This now means that all disciplines within FABSS hold the bronze award.
Head of Economics, Professor Holger Breinlich, said: “Economics is a discipline that is trying hard to address a gender imbalance and we are engaged in a number of external collaborations in this area; for example, with the Royal Economic Society. The Athena Swan award is part of our drive in this direction. The award is a testament to the real team effort that went into the submission process, from the Self-Assessment Team (led by Neil Rickman, Jo Blanden and Ioannis Lazopoulos) and from all colleagues."
The Athena SWAN Charter was launched in 2005 and recognises advancement of gender equality, representation, progression and success for all. Initially promoting women's careers in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment, the charter was expanded to recognise work undertaken in arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law (AHSSBL), and in professional and support roles, and for trans staff and students, in May 2015.
Milda Balse who leads FABSS’s Athena Swan work, said: “I am extremely pleased with Economics Athena Swan Bronze award. With it, we are celebrating that all disciplines in the Faculty now demonstrate recognised commitment to gender equality and can work on achieving their action points.”
