Age-inclusive hospitality public workshop
As part of this year's ESRC Festival of Social Science, Dr Lorna Wang, Dr Bora Kim, Frances Sanders and Professor Andrew King delivered a public workshop to showcase their research on age-inclusive hospitality.
This event allowed the team to connect with hospitality professionals, local organisations, and members of the public, resulting in some incredibly powerful discussions, and a shared commitment to collaborate towards Guildford becoming an official age-friendly community!
Lorna shared the WelcomeALL Toolkit, developed from her UKRI-funded 'Hospitality Connect' project, designed to widen understanding of the role hospitality businesses can play in supporting social connections within communities for older people.
The Toolkit, designed to read like a restaurant menu and available as a free download, offers tips and strategies to help venues meet the needs of older customers.
Thanks go to our excellent speakers, Nick Humble from The Guildford Institute, Pete Lambert from Experience Guildford, Kerry Oakley from Age UK Surrey, Rebecca Bayliss from the Centre for Ageing Better, and Sam Coulstock FIH MIEP from the Institute for Hospitality – and to the wonderful people who came to share their views and ideas on age-inclusivity in the community.
