5G/6G Innovation Centre wins prestigious award for new wireless technology at IEEE CAMAD 2024
The University of Surrey's 5G/6G Innovation Centre has received the 'Best Demo Award' at the IEEE CAMAD 2024 conference for its exciting new wireless technology, NL-COMM. This award recognises the team's live demonstration, which showed how NL-COMM can make 5G and other wireless networks more powerful and efficient in real-time by better utilising the available frequency, time and spatial resources.
NL-COMM, developed by Dr Konstantinos Nikitopoulos and the talented team at the 5G/6G Innovation Centre, uses cutting-edge techniques to boost the performance of wireless networks. This technology could play a big role in the future of mobile communication, making our connections faster and more reliable as we move towards the next generation of wireless, known as 6G.
"I am thrilled and honoured to receive this award for our work on NL-COMM," said Dr Konstantinos Nikitopoulos.
"This achievement is only possible thanks to the hard work and creativity of my team members, Chathura Jayawardena, Marcin Filo, and George Katsaros, and the continuous support of Regius Professor Rahim Tafazolli. Together, we're pushing the boundaries of what wireless technology can do."
The development of NL-COMM has been supported by the UK's Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, Innovate UK, and Innovate UK ICURe, which are helping the team explore how this technology could be used in real-world applications.
