Facilities and equipment

The existing facilities in our Performing Arts Technology Studios have been upgraded and complemented by our £1.7m state-of-the-art production and media suites, which launched in September 2022.

All studios, edit rooms and acoustic rooms in the new space are linked by a new Dante digital audio network, providing audio interconnection between each room, plus video interconnects for flexible configurations of the recording spaces and studios.

  • TV studio sound stage, gallery, sound room, vision and lighting room, and machine room
  • New postgraduate research student room
  • New film and TV equipment stores facility
  • Acoustic works to studio 2, accommodating a new Neve 88RS mixing console
  • Creative music technology workshop/performance room with multi-system speaker and listening space.

Music facilities

Studio 1

Studio 1

Designed for recording classical music. The studio floor is designed to be acoustically similar to a chamber concert hall, with a reverb time of around 1.1 to 1.5 seconds.

Studio 2

Studio 2

Designed for pop recording. The studio floor is acoustically treated to limit the recorded reverberation and allow for greater separation between the instruments.

Studio 3

Used primarily for mixing recordings made in the other studios. There is an overdub room for adding additional parts to recordings.

This world-class facility has a unique selection of Moog synthesisers centred on a modular System 55.

We have a series of practice rooms for both acoustic and amplified instruments ​​​and spaces equipped specifically for music teaching.

Creative Music Technology Studio

A large space designed for both advanced immersive audio composition and playback, as well as electronic music workshops and performance.

Media facilities

We are home to a brand new, state of the art TV studio, control room, edit rooms, the ITU-R BS.1116 critical listening room and audio laboratory and Mac labs.
