December 2024 events
Performances include Sibelius's grand hymn 'Finlandia', Berlioz's fizzing Roman Carnival Overture and 'Autumn' from Glazunov's ballet for The Seasons. We'll also explore the quirky story of Lieutenant Kijé (the soldier that bureaucrats had to invent to satisfy the Tzar's curiosity) through Prokofiev's sparkling music. Together with some magical pieces for chorus, including the ever-popular 'Shepherd's Pipe Carol', we hope this will be a winning evening for all tastes. How could you stay away?

The new interactive performance installation Silvano was created by Augustine Leudar in the Lagunas community in Loreto in the Amazon of Peru, an area he has lived on and off since 2001. As well as exploring the ultrasonic soundscape of the rainforest, the work contains interactive sonic and visual elements including the use of real time Stable Diffusion. This performance event allows the audience able to interact with Silvano for as little or as long as they desire.

OPEnMusic stands for ‘One Page Ensemble Music’ and consists of students studying composition and performance who perform new pieces by final year composers. The pieces on the programme respond to the topic being taught on the module. This year’s topic is ‘indeterminacy' - all the pieces will hand performers responsibility to decide any aspect of the piece from its structure, to its notes, to its sounds, often on the spur of the moment. Expect the unexpected.
