Undergraduate

If you are studying for Maltese qualifications, you will need a suitable equivalent grade to apply for our undergraduate courses. The table below shows grade equivalencies for Malta.

Please note: you will need the Advanced and Intermediate, so for BBB in the UK A-levels we would ask for BB MEC Advanced and BBB MEC Intermediate.

Minimum standard in English and mathematics

If you are applying for an undergraduate course at Surrey, you must meet our minimum standards for English and mathematics.

English: Secondary Education Certificate, English, 3

Mathematics:

Grade C/4Secondary Education Certificate, 5.
Grade B/5Secondary Education Certificate, 4.
Grade A/7Secondary Education Certificate, 2

Some courses may require higher grades in English and mathematics and/or additional subjects, so please check the requirements provided on individual course pages.

Undergraduate pathway programmes

If you do not meet the direct entry requirements for a course, you can apply to study on one of our UK/ EU foundation courses. If you are applying from Malta, we typically look for a minimum of MEC Advanced - CD and MEC Intermediate - CCD in the Advanced Matriculation Certificate.

Postgraduate

2:1 - Bachelor's degree (honours) with 70% overall (second class, upper division). Bachelor's degree (general) with 90% overall.  

2:2 - Bachelor's degree (honours) with 55% overall (second class, lower division). Bachelor's degree (general) with 80% overall.  

Postgraduate pathway programmes

If you do not meet the requirements for a postgraduate course, you can apply for a Pre-Masters Preparation Programme. These pathway programmes are offered by the University of Surrey International Study Centre and are designed in order to develop a student’s academic and English language skills in preparation for postgraduate study.

Upon successful completion, you can progress to a masters degree at the University of Surrey.

All our students require a good standard of English language to be eligible to study with us. If you don’t meet our requirements, we offer intensive pre-sessional English language courses, designed to take you to the level of English ability and skill required for your studies.
