Disruption Fund privacy notice

When an application is submitted to the Disruption Fund, the Doctoral College may process personal information including your:

• Name
• Contact information which may include email address and, if provided, supporting application information which may identify you (medical notes, copy of funding support letter)
• Funding and registration end dates
• Details you provide about your case for extension.

By providing us with your personal information you enable us to determine whether you are eligible to receive funding from the Research and Innovation Disruption Fund and to administer funding or registration extensions. All application forms are held securely by the Doctoral College.

To help ensure that the Disruption Fund Phase 2 process operates in line with the principles of equality of opportunity and equitable treatment, we are committed to undertaking equal opportunities monitoring. This monitoring involves accessing your personal data including protected characteristics. You will be given the opportunity to opt in to this analysis.

Limited information, such as name and length of extension, will be shared with:

• Doctoral College programmes team
• Studentship Finance
• Fees and Funding.

These are operational units within the University who need this limited information to enact the decision of the Disruption Fund Phase 2 panels.

Reasons for requests and copies of applications forms will not be shared with others outside of the Disruption Fund panel membership.

For those who are funded by UKRI, we are required to share names, length of extension and reason for request with our DTP partners or grant holders.

All the data we gather will be kept for a period 10 years after the fund closes and then destroyed.

As an individual whose data we process (a data subject), you have certain rights in relation to the processing. Find detailed information about your rights as a data subject.

You have the right to:

• Withdraw your consent for us to process your personal data where we have relied on that consent as our basis for processing your data.
• Ask us to confirm that your personal data is being processed and to access (i.e. have a copy) of that data as well as to be provided with supplemental information about the processing.
• Request that we rectify any inaccuracies where the data we hold on you is inaccurate or incomplete.
• Have your data erased by us, although in certain circumstances we may not be able to do this. The circumstances where this applies can be found in the guide to data subject rights information.
• Restrict the processing of your personal data in certain ways.
• Obtain your personal data for reuse.
• Object to certain processing of your personal data.

Make a complaint

If you’re still unhappy, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (an independent body set up to advise on information rights for the UK) about the way in which we process your personal data.
