Hospital and veterinary placements
Every year we welcome a number of nursing and veterinary science students from our partner institutions to do a clinical placement in a local Surrey hospital or local veterinary practices under specific nursing and veterinary science exchange agreements with the University of Surrey.
How it works
You will need to first check the requirements for coming to Surrey to do an exchange placement to make sure you are eligible.
If you are eligible, you can apply to your home institution for a place at Surrey. Your exchange/international office can provide you with details of their process and selection criteria.
If your bid is successful, your home institution will nominate you to us and we will send you the link to our application form.
How to apply
To be eligible to apply to Surrey for a clinical placement, you must
- be a registered undergraduate nursing/veterinary science student at one of our partner institutions with whom we have a specific nursing or veterinary science exchange agreement
- have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on the 4.0-point scale, or the equivalent - your exchange/international office will be able to confirm the requirements.
- non-native English speakers: meet our English language requirement of IELTS 7.0, with 7.0 in each subskill, or an equivalent qualification, or one of our accepted upper secondary school qualifications at an equivalent level.
Once we have received your nomination from your home institution, we will email your home exchange coordinator to confirm that your nomination has been approved.
You and your exchange/study abroad office will then receive an email in April/September with information about applying to Surrey and a link to our online exchange application form.
In the meantime, please note the supporting documents below that you must upload as part of your online application.
- Official transcript of records
- Copy of your passport photo page
- Traineeship agreement form
- Further Information form - list the modules you are taking this semester
- Evidence of English language proficiency - one of Surrey's accepted English language qualifications at IELTS 7.0, with 7.0 in each subskill (reading, writing, listening, speaking) or an equivalent qualification at the same level, or one of our accepted upper secondary school English qualifications at the appropriate level
- Nursing students only: police check certificate (pdf) - you will also be required to provide evidence at a later stage of certain immunisations.
