Integrated control systems for safe automated driving in emergency conditions

The studentship will deal with a centralised approach for the integrated control of automated steering, active brakes, active/semi-active suspension system and torque-vectoring. Automated optimisation-based tuning procedures of the controller parameters will be implemented. The focus will be on the active safety enhancement in emergency manoeuvres. The project will include a detailed experimental comparison between the centralised controller and conventional decentralised controllers during autonomous driving in limit handling conditions.

Applicants for this studentship should have a strong background in vehicle dynamics, control systems engineering, model-based control or numerical methods. The minimum academic requirement for this studentship is an upper second class UK Bachelors level degree or overseas equivalent, though preference will be given to applicants who also hold a Masters degree.
