Embedded electronics in 3D tissue engineering scaffolds for cellular interrogation and tissue deterministic regeneration

This project aims to embed flexible nano/micro-bioelectronics into 3D tissue engineering scaffolds, which could not only used to support the seeded cells, but also to realize cellular interrogation and tissue deterministic regeneration, which are expected to produce breakthroughs in fundamental science and lead to revolutionary technologies for biology and medicine.

Duration

Funding information

Approximately £14,777 p.a, in line with standard RCUK stipend levels (2018-19). Fully financially supported by National Physical Laboratory. Directly funded project (European/UK Students only).

About

3D scaffolds are widely used as a template for tissue engineering and regeneration. These scaffolds, which are typically ‘seeded’ with cells, support the growth of new tissues. However, in order to real-time evaluate and actively control the tissue growth, migration, and differentiation, multifunctional embedded bioelectronics are required.

Eligibility criteria

Available to UK and EU students only.

If English is not your first language an IELTS 6.5 or above (or equivalent) is required, with no sub-test score less than 6.
