Abstract

The fact that there are precisely 5 Platonic solids mystified the ancient Greeks. They tried to find a deeper meaning to this number by relating them to the classical elements. The mathematician and astronomer Johannes Kepler tried to do the same, by relating them to the planets in the solar system. Of course, our imaginations are not limited to the world we physically live in, and we can ask what the counterparts to these shapes are in 4-dimensions, and how many of them there are there.
