Abstract
This talk will cover the 10-year journey from being an undergrad Maths student at University of Surrey, to becoming a PhD Fellowship award holder in the field of Medical Statistics. The journey was not a straightforward one, including a pharmaceutical placement, a gap year, two Masters degrees, and a move from a role in the NHS to academia. There are so many directions to go after graduating and this talk will give an insight into how there is no ‘correct’ way of shaping your future career. You will also get to hear about several different types of projects in the field of statistics, illustrating the wide range and plethora of roles that are available. This will include various modelling projects on animals, biochemistry, and diseases, estimating prevalence and incidence of ophthalmic diseases, developing novel data visualisations for ranking different treatments, creating interactive apps to help others conduct or explore research, topped off with some COVID-19 research – naturally!
