Our PhD students go on to a range of exciting roles in both industry and research environments. On graduation day we caught up with Hannah Whitmore who studied for a Chemistry PhD at Surrey and is now working as a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard Medical School in the USA.

Our masters students go on to a huge range of exciting roles in industry as well as into postgraduate research. On graduation day, we caught up with George Hine who studied for an MSc Space Engineering at Surrey and is now working for Leonardo as a graduate project assurance engineer.

On graduation day we caught up with Vincent Yuan, the graduate speaker at the ceremony who was sponsored by the Hong Kong government to study on Surrey’s MSc Bridge Engineering.

As I didn’t consider myself very academic at school, I thought it would be quite an achievement to get a PhD. It is one of the best things I have ever done.

My professors were excellent and I received a solid engineering background which has benefited me throughout my career.

Graduation was amazing, the Alan Turing statue was very inspirational and there were some epic parties!

The people at Surrey were so welcoming that during my five years it felt like my second family. The Department is amazing and it's so supportive.

Surrey has an incredible student body with people from all over the world: it’s a great opportunity to get to know people from different cultures, sharing moments in a super-inspiring cultural melting pot.

The course really helped prepare me for my future career – I apply almost every element of my MSc on a daily basis – and allowed me to make a wealth of useful contacts.
