I enjoy the freedom of Literature that Surrey encourages, allowing me to explore various avenues such as creative writing, broadening my interests and skills.

It’s just incredible to be able to write my own work and explore different formats. I’ve always been a prose writer, but by my final year I’ve written poems, short stories and scripts as well.

The staff are insightful, supportive, and passionate about the subject they’re teaching. The way in which they arouse and sustain our intellectual curiosity, their dedication and professionalism are truly inspiring.

The staff are an absolute joy. Knowledgeable, insightful, and always willing to give advice. They are all such a huge part of why I enjoyed this course.

My supervisors have been instrumental in helping me to achieve my goals during my PhD by providing guidance and feedback on my research, enabling me to refine my ideas and hone my skills.

A real highlight for me was having an article published in a well-known journal in my field. This came out of a chapter I wasn’t expecting to write at the start of the thesis, on a novel I read during the PhD.

Studying English Literature alongside French has offered me an opportunity to explore a rich palette of texts and insights into literary and historical periods, such as Romanticism and the Middle Ages, that I had not encountered in depth prior to my degree course
