Shaan Ali shares her experience of studying for a masters part-time at Surrey, and what her day-to-day work involves as Senior Project Manager at Atkins, seconded to the M25 DBFO contract.

The set-up for distance learners is second-to-none at Surrey. It’s very interactive, accessible, and I have felt very much part of the class.

I was part of the Surrey/ICE Scholarship scheme. This meant that at the time of joining Mott MacDonald as a graduate civil engineer, I’d already had 16 months of experience there. Without that scheme and the links Surrey has with industry, I don’t think I’d be sitting in this job today!

Our masters students go on to a range of exciting roles in industry and research, often applying their knowledge to global challenges. On graduation day we caught up with Vincent Yuan, the graduate speaker at the ceremony who was sponsored by the Hong Kong government to study on Surrey’s MSc Bridge Engineering.
